
Disaster Services CoursesThe Disaster Services program is charged with responding to the needs of victims of disasters throughout our service area which includes the Counties of Roanoke, Franklin, Botetourt, Craig, Pittsylvania, Alleghany, Bath and Highland; and the cities and towns therein.
Bulk Distribution Operations This instructor-led course is interactive, where participants engage in scenarios to learn how to apply bulk distribution operations guidance. Participants receive the tools and information for use on disaster relief operations, chapter responses and in the classroom.
Client Casework: Provide Emergency Assis Trains Red Cross caseworkers how to conduct effective client interviews and provide appropriate assistance to help meet a client’s immediate disaster-caused or disaster-aggravated needs. This course if intended for Red Cross employees and volunteers who are interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to conduct client interviews and provide emergency disaster assistance to clients. Others who may benefit from taking this training include those in Operations Management and anyone requiring an understanding of the operational procedures and tasks associated with conducting client casework.
Disaster Assessment Basics Introduces the critical role of disaster assessment; explore related preparedness tasks, and learn how to collect and communicate disaster assessment information & become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery decisions.
Disaster Services: An Overview Introduces potential disaster volunteers and members of other local agencies to the role of the Red Cross in the community's actions in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and disasters. This course replaces Fulfilling Our Mission, Mass Care Overview and Introduction to Disaster Services.
ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll Provides learners with the opportunity to learn about and use an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) and all related equipment. For certification, volunteers must possess a valid driver's license, take CPR annually, attend a Defensive Drivers course and provide a satisfactory DMV report. Present a copy of your driver's license to Tanya Williams at the Chapter (540-985-3560). She will assist you in completing and sumbmitting the form for your DMV report.
Financial/Statistical Information Mngmt Instructor-led course designed to prepare employees and volunteers to perform the operational procedures and tasks of a service associate associated with Financial and Statistical Information Management on a disaster relief operation.
Fundamentals of Public Affairs: Local Utilizes case-based scenarios, group exercises, practice activities and open discussion to provide an overview of Disaster Public Affairs at the local level and prepare any Red Cross employee or volunteer to effectively respond to local media inquiries and to proactively present Red Cross messaging.
Logistics Simulation Simulation designed to provide learners with the opportunity to practice using skills and knowledge from Logistics: An Overview. The course also provides students the opportunity to practice skills needed to run a successful logistical operation at the local level.
Logistics: An Overview Provides participants with an overview of the Material Support Services group and the activities associated with it.
Shelter Operations Provides participants with knowledge and Red Cross policies and procedures for setting up, running and closing a Red Cross shelter during a disaster.
Shelter Simulation Simulation designed for learners to acquire knowledge of Red Cross policies and procedures for setting up, running and closing a shelter during a disaster.
Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Creates an awareness of the complex response issues and concerns associated with a Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism incident. |
