American Red Cross Receives $15,000 Grant

Monies to be used for local disaster response services

February 1, 2010—The American Red Cross has received from the J.T.–Minnie Maude Charitable Trust, a grant in the amount of $15,000 to support its disaster relief program in Danville and Pittsylvania County. The grant dollars will be used to provide food, clothing, rental assistance and lodging for families affected by single and multi-family fires.

“We are very appreciative for having received this grant,” says Tom Brown, Regional Executive for the American Red Cross. “During these difficult economic times, there are increasing numbers of people who are turning to the Red Cross for help and comfort. This grant will enable us to help families in the Danville and Pittsylvania County area whose lives have been changed because of disasters.”

Through excellent partnerships with emergency management, the Red Cross is able to go straight to the scene of a house or apartment fire to meet with families and provide immediate emergency assistance to those displaced. Red Cross assistance comes in many forms, including meals, clothing, warm shelter, replacement medications and counseling services.
